CREATING CONTENT - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW!

Keep It Simple:

Sounds cliquet I know but it really is THAT simple.

WHAT IS CONTENT?

Basically, anything you would want your potential customer/clients to see on your website, social networks, emails, podcasts and advertisements, anything that represents your business both digitally and in print.

  • Glossy perfection is falling out of style.

  • It’s time to get real!

*TIP: Brand everything with your logo or icon.

Create credibility & trust through content.

WHY CREATE CONTENT?

Content creation is the ultimate inbound marketing practice. When you create content, you’re providing free and useful information to your audience, attracting potential customers to your website, and retaining existing customers through quality engagement.

You’re also generating some major value for your company, as these content marketing stats show:

  • Content marketing is an essential part of your marketing strategy.

  • The MOST successful tool for nurturing leads, generating revenue, and building an audience of subscribers.

  • Blogging generates the biggest return on investment.

Content drives business growth. So, let’s get started with the types of content you can create and then review your content strategy.

TYPES OF CONTENT

  • Blogs

  • Articles

  • Infographics

  • Videos / Visual Content

  • Podcasts / Radio Shows

  • Facebook Posts / Pages

  • Courses / Digital Classes / eBooks / Checklists

  • How-to Guides

  • SlideShare / PowerPoint / Webinars

  • Photographs / Graphics / Art

  • Instructional Guides

  • Magazines (Digital & Print)

  • Streaming Media (Periscope, Facebook Live, Snapchat)

  • Forums / Wikis / Groups / Resource Centers

  • White Papers / Case Studies

  • Memes (Twitter/Facebook)

  • Testimonials / Reviews

  • Content Templates for Different Content Types

WHO IS YOUR AUDIENCE

  • They may be more active on Twitter than Facebook.

  • Younger audiences on Snapchat and TikTok.

  • Where are you getting the most engagement? Or The least?

  • Do your research, find what platforms are active in relation to your business.

  • Once you have an understanding of where your clients “hang out” you have the best chance of getting in front of your real audience.

  • When it comes to marketing and digital strategy, the best data is always your own, what works for someone else may not be best for your business.

*TIP: Always speak with your brand voice (What is my brand voice?)

WHAT TO CREATE

ATTENTION GRABBING VISUALS

  • BLOGS - Use a header image that will grab their attention so they want to read what you have written.

  • EDM - Personalise with your client NAME

  • Don’t use generic text

  • Use visual cues

  • Reduce text

  • Add CTA

  • POSTS - Ensure you size everything appropriately, square for Instagram, etc.

  • ENGAGE - If people comment, share or leave a review, respond to them or write a reply, good or bad.

  • BE AUTHENTIC - Be true to your business style and ethics.

  • RESPECT - Not everyone will agree with you or what you do.

MAKE YOUR SITES WORK

  • WEBSITE - Where possible add your content to your website as the first point of contact.

  • BLOGS - Use website links to share to social channels, directing traffic into your site.

  • EDM - All electronic information can be shared anywhere.

  • AUTHENTIC URLs - Don’t use URL/Link shorteners, it lets people know they aren’t spamming. URL shorteners like Bit.ly, Goo.gl, rb.gy, Rebrandly, Polr, TinyURL

*TIP: Shortened links hurt your SEO and SMO.

ORGANIC - PAID - INFLUENCER

Social media is accessible to us all, but knowing how to use it doesn’t always mean you are using it to its potential. There are lots that can be done behind the scenes to improve your content and brand reach.

What is product placement?

Product placement refers to giving exposure to your products by means of including them in lifestyle shots in which the product isn’t necessarily the key focus of the image.

*TIP: Balance between advertising and entertainment.

Don’t post just to post.

IMAGE SEO

Optimize Your Alt Text and Title Text

Lastly, let me leave an image optimization advice as a parting note. Always remember to fill in the alt attributes with your target keywords. This helps explain to Google search bots exactly what they are and rank in the image search results. BUT void keyword stuffing as it can result in a negative user experience and resulting in your site being seen as spam. Be descriptive and detailed, as well as use variances of related and relevant keywords.
